Album at the KeNIC MyKE app launch: a .ke home for your family

Three generations of a family on a sofa, looking at photographs on a phone together, with an old printed album on the table

On 28 September 2026 the Kenya Network Information Centre (KeNIC), which runs every .ke web address, held an online launch for its new MyKE app. It was a three-part launch: the app itself, a call to Kenyans abroad to claim their own .ke name, and Album. You can watch the full webinar on KeNIC's YouTube channel. Album's part starts at 20 minutes 43 seconds.

What the MyKE app does

MyKE is KeNIC's own app for .ke names, now on Google Play for Android phones. It lets you:

The app began as a challenge KeNIC set for university students in 2025. The webinar told the story of how that student project became a product anybody can download, and the first registrar to go live on it joined the panel to explain what it means for people buying a name.

Why KeNIC wants more Kenyans on .ke

KeNIC said it aims to reach 159,000 .ke names in the three months after the launch, and that it was already about 85% of the way there. The message of the day was simple: your domain is your digital real estate. A .ke name is an address on the internet that you own, the way you own a plot of land, and it says where you are from wherever in the world you are.

That message was aimed squarely at Kenyans abroad. The webinar premiered a campaign film, "Be Kenyan digitally, globally", asking the diaspora to claim their own .ke name.

Where Album fits

KeNIC used the launch to unveil Album as a service featured inside the MyKE app. Harry, who leads the team behind Album at WPfoss, started with a picture most of us know: somewhere in every family there is a box, an envelope or an old album full of photographs. A grandmother's wedding. A father's first day at work. Those prints sit in one relative's house until one day nobody knows where they are. And the photographs we take now are scattered across WhatsApp, Instagram and a dozen phones.

Album is the answer we built to that:

For a family spread across counties and countries, which is exactly the diaspora KeNIC is calling, that means one place everybody can reach.

How to get your family's .ke name

There are two simple ways:

  1. For a name on its own, download the MyKE app and compare registrars, or go straight to an accredited registrar.
  2. For a name with your family album behind it, check whether your family name is free on album.ke. If it is, Album registers it for you when you pay, and your album is ready the moment your payment clears.

Watch it

The whole launch is about 39 minutes, and Album's part takes six. Watch the webinar on YouTube, then look inside a demonstration album to see what a family's album looks like.

We are proud to stand beside KeNIC in getting more Kenyan families onto .ke. Album keeps your family's photographs, tree, stories and tributes in one private place on your own .ke name, for your children and theirs.
